Memphis
A Memphis-based leasing company has purchased the former At Home with Bassett by Goose Hollow furniture store at 1025 Hwy. 45 N. Alt. in Mayhew.
Realtor Scott Farmer told The Dispatch the 60,093 square foot property has been for sale since July and closed in early August. The new owner, 1025 Highway 45, LLC, intends to lease the building to prospective tenants. Farmer declined to disclose the purchase price.
“I can’t share what’s going in, and we haven’t found out what’s going in there yet, but it’s available for lease,” Farmer said.
The former furniture store was listed for sale at $1.5 million. According to Lowndes County tax records, the property is appraised for tax purposes at $972,840. The facilities include two warehouses, office space and five loading docks.
The store was first built in 1999 and operated by John Crawford until 2020 when he closed the business and began leasing to Charles Strickland, who opened a secondary location for his Columbus-based furniture business, Goose Hollow.
Strickland said he closed that location July 15 to consolidate his business and advised Crawford to sell.
“We told him to put it up for sale,” Strickland said. “We have two stores here in Columbus, and getting people to work at all is just a hassle, and we were tired of fighting that hassle.”
Owner of 1025 Highway 45, LLC, Michael Christoff, did not respond to calls or messages made by The Dispatch by press time.
